Geometry and colour

Estructura volante (homenaje a Velázquez), 1977, by José María Yturralde, is a strange kind of kite, perfectly capable of flying, framed within the artistic trends of the 1970s that gave rise to a search for the essential, not just as a romantic ride around nature, but as the physical integration of works of art in nature. Forerunners of Sky-Art, Yturralde's flying structures assume their full meaning with the very experience of raising the flying contraption.

In this specific context, Yo extraigo el color, a work by Belén Rodríguez from 2018, can be interpreted as a double tribute to the baroque interior, that paradigmatic period of Spanish art, and to nature (landscapes). This work of art, which due to its size and configuration could be a stage curtain, is made of cotton fabric, the design of which appears by removing its colour. The folds and the central opening seem to allude to the theatricality of the museum´s rooms and the action of entering them.
